Pastel Shells Afghan

(Size: Approx. 40 x 60") Crochet Hook Size J

Five Color Version: 10 oz. ea. of Colors A,B,C.D, 3 oz. of Color E for border

Four Color Version: 13 oz. each of Colors A,B,C, 3 oz. of Color D for border

Pattern Stitch: Multiples of 6 plus 5

Starting with Color A, chain 113 (or desired width).

ROW 1: 2 tr in 6th ch from hook, *skip 2 ch, 1 dc in next ch, skip 2 ch, 5 tr in next ch (shell made), repeat from *across chain, ending with skip 2 ch, 1 dc in last ch. Keeping 2 loops of Color A on hook, draw up a loop of Color B through both loops. Chain 4 and turn.

ROW 2: 2 tr in first dc, *1 dc in center tr of next shell, 5 tr in next dc, repeat from * across row, ending 1 dc in turning chain. Attach Color C as before, chain 4 and turn.

Repeat ROW 2 for pattern, changing colors each row.

Make 15 groupings for Five Color Version and 20 groupings for Four Color Version.

FINISHING: Weave in all ends.

Row 1: Attach last color - D or E - on any side (not a corner) and sc around entire afghan, having 3 sc at each corner, being sure to keep work flat. Have same number of stitches on corresponding sides. Join with a slip stitch. Chain 1 and turn.

Row 2: Work 1 sc in each sc and 3 sc in each corner. Join with a slip sti. Chain 1 and turn.

Row 3: Work 1 sc in each sc and 3 sc in each corner. Join with a slip st and fasten off.
