Currently in Riverside County, California...
Our local chapter of Project Linus now has over 350 individuals
crocheting, knitting, and quilting blankets for local seriously
ill and traumatized children. We currently donate over 150 blankets
per month. Recipients include Loma Linda Children's Hospital,
Riverside Regional Medical Center, Royal Family Kids Camp (for
Foster Children), Ronald McDonald House, Schlessinger Foundation
(My Stuff Bags), San Bernardino Red Cross for home fire victims,
children of our soldiers killed in Iraq and many more national
tragedies.
In
September 2001, our local group sent over 400 blankets to New
York and Washington DC for the children of the victims of the
Sept. 11th tragedy. 389 of those blankets were given to the more
than 1200 children of the Cantor Fitzgerald employees lost at
the World Trade Center. Our blanketeers come from all walks of
life... individual caring people who want to help children in
need. Please join us!
On a regular basis, Loma Linda University Children's Hospital
receives over 80,000 children (from all over the world) through
their doors needing medical treatment. That is over 6,600 children
per month! We would like to provide security blankets for them
all, but the need is monumental. We have reached our goal of 150
blankets per month and are now ready to set new goals. To date,
our little group has distributed over 10,000 blankets, with a
majority being the larger sizes. Thank you volunteers!
We have been given the opportunity to hand out the blankets
directly to the children in some facilities. We pass out a specially
hand-picked blanket for each child, ranging from 3 months to 16
years old. The nurses are always ecstatic. They sometimes help
us pick out the blanket that best suits "their" childs
needs. It is wonderful to know that these nurses really consider
the children as their own. We feel blessed just to be a part of
it.
Project Linus is a 100% volunteer endeavor. Everyone involved
donates their time, their materials, and their loving efforts
to make these security blankets. If you would like to help in
any way, please contact the owner of this website, Janet
Jarosh. Besides blankets, we need yarn, fabric, batting, and
gift certificates to craft and fabric stores.
